The first day saw us take maximum points from a weak Worcestershire side, who were definitely going to be the weekend 's weak team with every one expecting maximum points against them. The other match saw Durham beat Hampshire unexpectedly 3-2 in a very tight match. Durham were without their number one and the guy who played one had a bad virus, so they were not expected to do well.

The second round saw us beat Durham 3-2. The three we won were pretty comfortable. Hampshire got maximum points so we went into the final day needing 7 points to ensure we would stay up. We were assuming maximum points for Durham against Worcs.

We had a great start with Ian Mackenzie and Adrian Davies gaining 5 points in the first 2 matches and Ian had match points in the 4th and was unlucky not to win.

Russ Shipton completed his best ever weekend for Middlesex winning all his 3 matches, for the first time, and not dropping a game. This gave us all the points we needed to avoid relegation especially as Durham had dropped a point

I then took Chris Wilson apart, beating him comfortably 10/9 in the fifth!!! This was the icing on the cake as it gave us the win. Chris Goodbourn lost in a great match with Barry Featherstone but had nothing in his legs after not winning the 3rd game for a 3 love victory. It was, however, a dead rubber.

Hampshire are relegated along with Worcs.

Looks good for us next season as we have Cowley and Hardy joining us, giving a very strong squad at last.
